2013 Tucker Center Film Festival featuring Ready to Fly
Monday, February 4, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (CST)
The Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport announces its third annual Film Festival taking place on February 4, 2013, in the DQ Club Room at TCF Bank Stadium. The event, presented by the University of Minnesota Athletic Department, is part of the 27th annual celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD).
The Tucker Center and the University of Minnesota Athletic Department are excited to announce the third annual Tucker Center Film Festival (TCFF) that features the film Ready to Fly: The True Story of a Dream Worth Fighting For. This film provides a poignant example of how sportswomen continue to fight for access and equal opportunity to compete forty years after the passage of Title IX. Ready to Fly follows 2009 World Champion Lindsey Van and the U.S. Women’s Ski Jumping team as they fight for the chance to compete at the Olympics. Ski jumping is the only Winter Olympic sport that doesn’t allow women to compete. In the pursuit of fighting to make her Olympic dream a reality, Van becomes a reluctant spokesperson for gender equality and women’s rights. Watch the trailer for Ready to Fly here.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the film beginning at 7:00 p.m.
More information about the event is available at the Tucker Center web site.
