In addition to our presence at the conference, we will be hosting a Tour/Workshop at our National Headquarters on 55th & Silver Spring on Friday March 8th from 9am to 3:15pm. (Participants are not required to register for the Conference through the Sustainability Summit in order to take our tour and workshop ~ anyone may register!)
MORNING TOUR DESCRIPTION:
Tour our 2.5 acre Urban Farm! Learn about Growing Power's history, community projects, and see our growing methods hard at work!
AFTERNOON WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
LIVING BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS: AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION Learn how to develop and maintain sustainable growing systems as well as the soil science behind it all!
Composting: Learn how to build and maintain a small scale home-use composting system. Discuss how to develop a large scale system that transforms your community's waste into healthy soil for food production.
Vermiculture: Learn how to construct and maintain a worm bin at home, and participate in filling one of Growing Power's production-scale worm bins. Discussion will include how to build out larger scale worm depositories for commercial production. Learn about using nutrient rich vermicompost as a fertilizer and a value-added product.
**All participants responsible for their own transportation. Registration, the tour, lunch, and the workshop will all be held at 55th & Silver Spring.
