When the 2013 Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) opens on Friday, October 11 at the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA), the world’s high-tech capital will once again become a lens for experiencing the true stories, hopes and dreams of Africa. Now in its fourth year, the annual weekend showcase of more than 30 films from various African nations will take audiences of all ages across the continent, presenting a mix of feature films, shorts and animations from Africa’s seasoned and emerging first-voice filmmakers. Presented by Oriki Theater in partnership with the Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) and the African Diaspora Network, the mission of the festival is to promote an understanding and appreciation of Africa and Africans through moving images.
Now in its 6th year and presented by Oriki Theater in partnership with the Community School of Music and Arts and the African Diaspora Network; the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) is the only film festival in California that is exclusively focused on films made by African filmmakers and, crucially, provides audiences with exquisite lenses to the real Africa. The festival’s mission, thus, aims at promoting finer understanding and greater appreciation of Africa’s rich heritage through moving images. Our annual film festival is held every October and attracts an international following of distinguished transcontinental visitors, corporate executives, cinema buffs, academics, civic officials and diverse community supporters.
