2013 Northern Illinois University Volunteer Fair
Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM (PDT)
** DUE TO SPACE LIMITATIONS REGISTRATION FOR THE NIU VOLUNTEER FAIR IS NOW CLOSED **
Student Involvement & Leadership Development is pleased to invite you to our eighth annual NIU Volunteer Fair being held on Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Northern Illinois University! This event will take place in the Art Gallery Lounge in the Holmes Student Center. The Volunteer Fair offers table space for community organizations to display and speak to students about volunteer opportunities your agency may have available. Student organizations with missions geared toward service will be present as well.
The fair will give your organization the opportunity to recruit NIU students to volunteer for your organization. The Volunteer Fair is also an important tool for our students to learn about community resources in addition to volunteer openings that are available within our community.
The Volunteer Fair is a great opportunity for our students to not only gain first-hand information regarding all the volunteer possibilities in the greater DeKalb area, but also to continue building the momentum toward NIU Cares Day 2014 (Saturday, April 12, 2014), our day-long, campus-wide volunteerism event that takes place throughout DeKalb County.
Volunteerism and service are community-based initiatives, and for that reason, the Fair cannot be a success without the involvement of DeKalb area service organizations such as yours!
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Pay parking is available for visitors in the visitor pay lot on Carroll Avenue (near the parking garage and Founders Memorial Library). There is a $5 fee to park in this lot. If you already have a NIU parking permit, feel free to park in your designated lot.
Is there a fee for my organization to participate?
There is no fee to participate in the Fair. However, there is a $5 fee in order to park in the visitors parking lot.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
Feel free to bring display boards, brochures, applications, and give-away items. SILD will provide your table and chairs. There will be a limited amount of electrical outlets available, so please arrive early if you wish to reserve a table near an outlet.

When & Where
Student Involvement & Leadership Development- Community Service
Community Service, a functional area of Student Involvement & Leadership Development, focuses on providing our students with opportunities to connect to and make a difference in their community. Through service, students not only enrich their community, but also gain hands-on experience in various work fields, build relationships with their peers, and learn valuable networking skills.
The Department of Student Involvement & Leadership Development firmly believes in the value of service to one's community and has thus incorporated community service as a component of the Department's focus.
