Houston International Festival Invites Local Nonprofit Partners
to participate in the
Fine Art, Fine Craft, and International Markets
and Green Mountain Energy Kid’s World
ABOUT HIF:The festival takes place the last two weekends of April (April 20-28, 2013) in beautiful downtown Houston. This year’s 2013 Houston International Festival spotlights Brazil. Attendance is estimated to be around 150,000-200,000 visits annually. More than $8.4 million is generated in trade advertising and publicity. The Festival’s demographics include high-ranking government dignitaries, business leaders, school-aged children, and families.
ABOUT THE MARKETS AND GREEN MOUNTAIN ENERGY KID’S WORLD: The Houston International Festival Fine Arts Avenue is a city-block gallery exclusively reserved for the display and sale of the works of artists from across the globe. The Fine Arts Avenue is a show-within-a-show located at the heart of the festival, providing maximum exposure to the city’s art buying crowd. The high quality Houston International Festival Markets are unsurpassed in selection, quality and authenticity. Each market area is designed around a geographical theme to offer the vendor a rich and beautiful market venue from which to sell products and to attract a large crowd. Highlighted geographical areas include African-Caribbean, Asia & the Middle East, The Americas, and Europe. The Green Mountain Energy Kid’s World provides an interactive experience for school age children at the festival.
NON-PROFIT INVOLVEMENT: HIF invites qualified non-profit organizations to participate by providing a performance, demonstration, or hands-on activity to promote their organization or culture. HIF is looking for lively, colorful, and demonstrative cultural displays to spotlight the different geographical areas of the Markets. Selected organizations will receive a complimentary 10x10 space with tents, tables, and chairs within the Fine Art, Fine Craft, and International Markets or the Green Mountain Energy Kid’s World. (An over $500 value per weekend.) Each non-profit organization will have an opportunity to inform the 150,000+ Festival patrons about their organization and connect with new audiences. HIF offers prime event exposure and additional volunteers during the event (if needed). For those organizations that would like to have a presence at the festival to promote their organization, but do not want to provide interactive elements, we will have discounted spaces available.
REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLIMENTARY SPACES:
Must be a legal 501 (c) 3 or 4 non-profit organization.
Must provide an interactive element to highlight your organization.
If participating in the GME Kid’s World, must provide all materials necessary for a hands-on activity.
Must provide your own volunteers to interact with festival patrons (Additional volunteers may be provided by the Festival Market Manager on an as-needed basis).
Must decorate the tent in an enticing manner to represent your organization.
Must attend one mandatory festival-planning meeting for non-profit partners. (Schedule TBD)
Must promote participation in the festival with a minimum of one eblast to your organization’s list.
May not sell any items in complimentary spaces
Provided by iFest for selected Non-profit Partner Organizations:
HIF to provide tables, chairs and one 10’x10’ tent. Space is limited and will be chosen by quality of the activity submitted on the application.
HIF to provide event coordination.
HIF to include partner and activity in event promotions and on festival website.
HIF to highlight each organization in one eblast prior to festival weekends.
Discounted booths: Non-profit Organizations, Cultural Societies, Community Groups, and Clubs who wish to participate at the festival, but do not want to provide an interactive element are eligible for discounted booth spaces. Sales of merchandise at the discounted booths are prohibited. If your organization would like to sell materials in the market, please apply for a Markets booth space at www.ifestartistandmarketsapplication2013.eventbrite.com
The discounted spaces are for distributing information and recruiting new audiences, members, and volunteers. 10’x10’ booth spaces are available for $225 per festival weekend (a 50% discount). The Festival will not provide tents, tables, chairs or any kind of set-up equipment. A Booth Rental Package including tent, 2 chairs and one table can be provided via approved festival vendor only.
There are a limited number of discounted and complimentary booth spaces for non-profits. Please provide detailed information of how your organization will interact with the festival audience, decorate your booth, and promote your organization in a lively and colorful way.
Applications are due by Wednesday, February 27, 2013
Applicants will be notified of their status on Friday, March 1, 2013.
Release: Applicant’s signature on this application releases and forever discharges The Houston International Festival Foundation, Inc., The Houston International Festival, The City of Houston and Harris County, all sponsoring organizations, and their elected officials, directors, employees, agents and volunteers from any responsibility, personal liability, or claims of loss or damages arising out of or in conjunction with participation in The Houston International Festival. The Houston International Festival is not responsible for any injury sustained by exhibitors or guest. Applicant will store and exhibit materials at applicant’s own risk.
