The Train of Lights has been a long-standing tradition for many families for more than a decade. This year, our Dome Observation Car, x-ATSF 505, will be Reserved Seating, with snacks served in the car, and car attendants.
On these early trains from Niles, you will be able to see this beautiful canyon on the first leg of the ride to Sunol, and see the changing of the fall colors, from some of the best seats on the train in the observation dome.
Our antique coaches and our open cars are decorated for the season, inside and out, and our Dome Car passengers will be able to wander through the entire train during the ride.
When the weather is good, the riders on the early train get to enjoy a beautiful sunset as we depart from Sunol, when you will fully experience the festive lighted decorations glowing inside and outside of the antique cars while enjoying the holiday music and some refreshments.
On the return leg of our trip, you'll be able to see our lit train, trailing behind us as we weave back through the canyon, and you'll arrive back in Niles in time for dinner.
We sometimes have last-minute tickets available! Come to the station an hour before the train and ask the station agent to add you to the waiting list for that day. We'll also tweet about day-of-train ticket availability, if you want to follow @toots4ncry.
Please read our Frequently Asked Questions page, since we will have answers to questions that you may not have thought about yet. :-)

The Niles Canyon Railway is operated by the Pacific Locomotive Association. We have been operating on this historic route since 1987. The Niles Canyon Railway has been running the Train of Lights for more than two decades, and has become an annual tradition for many families.
Our Train of Lights operations are our main annual fundraiser, and the ticket prices are supporting the maintenance and operation of our railroad and equipment. Our volunteer staff thank you for your support of our Educational outreach, and our restoration of this historic railroad corridor.
