In the Executive Office of the Mayor, Ms Pittman counsels and advises veterans and their dependents regarding benefits, rights, services and privileges that may be obtained by them through the Department of Veterans Affairs. Barbara informs and assists veterans in finding the necessary documents required to substantiate their claims, performs research in securing vital documents. She provides advice and assistance in obtaining burial benefits, flags, review of discharge, or civil service preference. Barbara interviews and counsel’s veteran’s widows and their dependents in matters of survivors benefits and assists those who try to prove legality of marriages, births, divorces. She makes home or institutional visits to provide information and counseling to the Armed Forces Retirement homes, various city nursing or hospice facilities, homeless veterans shelters and medical centers.

Previously she was appointed under the Obama Administration as a member of the Senior Executive Service from July 2009-December 2012. She held several key positions during her appointment throughout federal agencies. She served as the Special Assistant to the Secretary of Defense White House Liaison. Her responsibilities included management t of the Department of Defense staffing, recruitment, vetting and clearance process for political sensitive positions, boards, and commission appointments. She was the Principal DoD contact with the Presidential Personnel Office, White House Military Office and the Principal DoD liaison for the White House Political Affairs Office, the White House Intergovernmental Affairs, and the President’s Council on Women and Girls.
Jas Boothe has served over 13 years in the United States Army and is currently on active duty in the United States Army National Guard.

The National League of Female Veterans was created to act as an advocate of the issues facing female veterans and their families. There are currently almost two million female veterans. Traditional services for veterans do not always fit the needs of female veterans and those closest to them. This is due to the fact that women veterans are sometimes the family’s sole caregivers, services and benefits designed to promote independent living for combat-injured veterans will need to consider other needs.
