EVENT OVERVIEW

This weekend-long event is unique to the Midwest and is a sure bet for family fun. Whether you're a rec racer, a seasoned pro, or a SUP newcomer, there will be something for you!

The Festival site location at Bishops Bay Country Club (which is open to the public for this event) is located on beautiful Lake Mendota and has stunning views of the Wisconsin State Capitol building.

Plan your weekend around the Festival: we have events Friday and Saturday.

All attendees must purchase a Base Ticket to enter the event on Saturday. Morning race events fees include a Base Ticket. All clinics, races and events require pre-registration.

• A portion of net profit from the Festival will be donated to the UW Health American Family Children's Hospital and the Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison,Wisconsin.
• Learn to paddleboard, improve your skills, have fun!

FRIDAY, July 12th EVENING SCHEDULE

5:00 p.m.: Racing Tips & Paddling Skills plus Touring & Race Board Design Clinic cost: $40; includes Welcome Dinner. 

RACING TIPS & PADDLING SKILL -- First we'll host Starboard racer and paddler extraordinaire John Becker. Great for the beginners SUP boarder eager for racing tips and a review of proper paddle techniques. Focus is on forward stroke, basic turns, and preparing for your first race, and you WILL be ready to race after this clinic. It takes place on both land and water, so please dress accordingly. John Becker has been an avid paddler his whole life and is sponsored by Quickblade Paddles, Starboard and Pro Lite. John was also the head tester for Joe Bark Paddleboards for 5 years before he became head tester for Starboard.

TOURING & RACE BOARD DESIGN  Immediately following the race clinic we'll host Starboard designer Brian Syzmanski and head tester John Becker together. You will learn the fine details of touring and race board design, the testing regimen that Starboard uses when developing their new models, how to evaluate the shape and construction of each board you look at and more. Brian Syzmanski is a master shaper with decades of experience and John Becker is former head tester for Joe Bark Paddleboards now head tester for Starboard SUP.

After the clinic we’ll enjoy a catered dinner under the tent then we’ll watch the Tahoe SUP film, “The Klamath River Expedition.” Clinic goes from 5-7pm. Boards are available to rent for this clinic $25 for 12’6” or 14’. 10 boards available. For board rental email denny@paddleboardspecialists.com (This ticket is for Friday only. 5:00 p.m. QUICKBLADE Paddle Stroke Perfection Clinic with Larry Cain and Morgan Hoesterey

Develop your winning stroke at a very special hands-on workshop presented by two of the best paddlers in the world. Includes Paddle stroke theory - dry land session featuring full explanation of theory behind effective paddling, including video of top Olympic paddlers and SUP racers. Water session in which Larry and Morgan work with participants one on one and in small groups addressing issues one on one with each individual. Useful technique drills and exercises in small group session. Question and answer.

Limit: 10 people, cost $75 includes welcome dinner. Clinic goes from 5-7pm. Boards are available to rent for this clinic $25 for 12’6” or 14’. 10 boards available. ABOUT LARRY CAIN: Larry represented Canada at three Olympic games in sprint canoeing, winning gold @ Los Angeles ’84. During this time he became good friends with Jim Terrell of Quickblade who was also a sprint canoe Olympian. After having long since retired from races, SUP reignited his competitive edge and now the Canadian trains regularly for SUP events, but also just to stay fit in general. Larry has done a series of clinics for Quickblade and we are excited to bring his expertise and stoke to our event.

ABOUT MORGAN HOESTERY: Based out of Hawaii, Morgan is a top-shelf endurance athlete, has crossed all 7 open ocean Hawaiian island channels on a SUP, travels the globe SUP’ing, surfing, swimming, and finding adventure wherever she goes. You will be inspired by her passion for and knowledge of all facets of SUP.

Fitness Foundations and Understanding the Body Mechanics of SUP with Mona Melms of Studio Melt

Hosted by Mona Melms RN MS PT, co-owner/founding director of Melt, LLC & SUP enthusiast. Dedicating five minutes to your own movement machinery before and after your day of paddling will provide you with noticeable benefits in your paddling performance. Mona will demonstrate how a SUP warm-up routine activates the nerves and muscles involved in paddling and prepares them to go to work as a well-functioning team of body parts. A post-SUP routine aims at balancing the effects of repetitive paddling movement to maximize peak performance.

TRX Rip Trainer with Kari Woodall of Woodall Training

TRX Rip Training utilizes a lever bar and resistance cord to provide a unique mix of core stability, mobility and coordination challenges. Perfect for anyone from fitness enthusiasts to elite athletes, the Rip Trainer enhances fluidity and range of motion and decreases the risk of injury. Join Kari Woodall—whose athletic and coaching experience include five U.S. National Swimming Team selections and eleven years as an NCAA Division I Swimming Coach—for a Rip workout that combines high-speed striking movements and slower speed strength and stability exercises. Since retiring from NCAA coaching, Kari launched Woodall Training, LLC. She focuses on athletic-based personal training in and out of the water.

SUP Yoga Clinic with Suki Warda
What's Downward Dog like on a paddleboard? Try it with our Intro to SUP Yoga! Find out why yoga on a paddleboard is becoming so popular, and learn the benefits of challenging your core while stabilizing yourself on a SUP. Suki Warda is a Professional Pilates instructor and SUP lover and will lead you through a basic yet challenging series of poses while introducing breathing and balancing techniques.

Touring/Raceboard Design

Meet Starboard board designer Brian Syzmanski and Starboard head touring/race board tester John Becker. In this 45 minute open session you’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions and drive the discussion to areas of interest.

Choosing a Paddle and How to use it by Werner Paddles

The sure fire way to guarantee more fun while paddling is to use less energy.  The best two ways to get started is to assure you are using the proper fitting paddle and to learn how to perform strokes more efficiently.  Learn how to select the perfect paddle fit options and proper size then let's dissect the forward stroke and see how, along with matching a better fitting paddle, you will be using less energy and have more fun on the water.

Race Tips by Werner Paddles

Just getting started with racing or looking for some fresh ideas to practice and take you closer to the podium, this class will be a big help.  In the interactive, dry land class we will cover starting line strategies, buoy turns and a drafting.  After class, you can choose to get on the water with instructor Matt Johnson for some practice and evaluation of  your new skills.

Biography of Werner Paddles Presenter

Matthew C. Johnson has been competing in the paddling world for the last two years, with much success as one of the top placers in the Midwest.  Matt played football for Defiance College in Ohio, entered into the body building world shortly after, winning numerous titles, and now has found the same excitement participating within the SUP world!  He spends his time working for the City of Holland, Personal training, and relaxing with his wife Angie, and their two daughters Maryn(15), and Ayvah(9 1/2).  Matt is Shop sponsored by The Outpost of Holland, Werner paddles, Quiksilver, and Surftech.   Stop by and introduce yourself, but don't let the big exterior fool you,...he has one of the kindest spirits you'll encounter and loves the opportunity to share his knowledge with other paddlers.

6-mile Open Race Women's

Sprint Race -- CASH prizes

Open to everyone with separate qualifying classes for Men and Women racers. We will supply the RRD Air Race 12'6" boards used for this event. 6 racers per heat, racers use their own paddle.

It will be a very short course, approximately 2-3 minutes per heat with a water start, one turn, then a finish between the finish buoy and the dock. The first group of heats will be timed qualifying, and the top 24 fastest times will advance to the elimination rounds. During elimination rounds, the top 3 finishers in each heat advance to the next round. The top 3 finishers of the final Championship heat will be awarded prize money with $100 for First;  $75 for Second;  $50 for Third.

Genaral Notes

PLEASE NOTE AND READ CAREFULLY: There will be no refunds given due to inclement weather. Parking at Bishops Bay Country Club is limited. Please arrive early for the best parking selection. If you're racing, you can drop off your board at the dock with one of our volunteers and then return to park your vehicle. Please observe any "Do Not Park Here" signs. Thank you for your cooperation.

RACE, CLINIC, EVENT REGISTRATION ENDS AT 5 P.M. ON FRIDAY, JULY 12TH.

RACE PACKET PICK-UP--PLEASE READ (NEW!): Packets will be available for pick up on SATURDAY, JULY 13TH ONLY. We are streamlining the check-in process and assigning bib numbers prior to our event. Please arrive at Bishops Bay Country Club as close to 7:00 a.m. as possible to help facilitate the check-in process. Check-in runs from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. 

Skipper's meeting will be shortly after 7:30 a.m. The 6 Mile National race begins at 8:00 a.m.

If you are racing in the 2-mile REC RACE, please hold off and check in until after 8:00 a.m.. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

We have limited quantities, but you can rent one of our displacement-hull boards for racing at $25 per board. Need to Store Your Board on Friday Night? You can store your board at Paddleboard Specialists beginning on Friday, July 12th. Bring your board to 5495 Catfish Court, Westport, WI 53597. Drop your board off between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and you can pick it up in the morning at 7 a.m. Call 1.877.473.1199 if you have any questions.

Check out downtown Middleton..it's full of great places to eat including family owned Villa Dolce, Vin Santo, Sofra and Free House Pub.
