A Shot Across the Bow
Hidden Stories from the Sea
Enjoy an evening of conversation with Anastasia Weigle, Project Archivist for Maine Maritime Museum, where she will recount several hidden stories within the museum’s maritime collections.
Anastasia spends countless hours working within Maine Maritime Museum's collections documenting the memories of Maine's maritime men, women and children from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. Within these collections are stories of adventure, joy, hardship, sadness, despair, death and love that bind families together even at great distances. She will share her experience as an archivist and how she finds the hidden stories within the collection, what she calls, “the emotional value” — the stories that connect us to the people of our past.
The project archivist is funded through “The Hidden Collections” Grant from Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s Council on Library and Information Resources for the purposes of documenting and making accessible information about crewmembers of merchant ships from 45 manuscript collections in the MMM Research Library.
