2013 CCSG Gluten Free Workshop

The Chesapeake Celiac Support Group in cooperation with AAMC is hosting the 2013 CCSG Gluten Free Workshop on Saturday, October 19th 2013 from 10 am to 2:30 pm. The event will be held in the Health Sciences Pavilion (7th floor).
This workshop will feature an educational panel discussion starting at 10 am. The panel will feature health and nutrition professionals, restaurant owners, a member of the CCSG steering committee and other experts. Panel participants will include: Ben Andrasik (author of Gluten Free in Afghanistan), Maureen Burke (owner of One Dish Cuisine), Dr Anca Safta (celiac expert and pediatrician from U of MD), Jules Shepard (owner of Jules Gluten Free), Maureen Shackelford (RD, LDN, AAMC), Krystal Register (RD, Wegmans), Dr Rebecca Vickers (Arundel Pediatrics) and Dr Nancy Miller-Ihli (owner of Savvy Selections and former USDA National Program Leader for Nutrition for the US).
Please join us to learn from experts in the field of nutrition, medicine, food preparation and living the gluten free lifestyle. The panel discussion will cover topics such as: 20 ppm gluten free definition, how do you know if restaurants are safe, where are gluten free items found in different grocery stores, how do you stay safe while traveling or stationed overseas, how do you handle hospitalization, special considerations for gluten free kids, the latest in celiac research and much more.
There will also be a mini-vendor fair in association with this event featuring local businesses that support a gluten free lifestyle including: Wegman's, Whole Foods, Irish Restaurant Co's (Killarney, Galway Bay, Brian Boru), Allergen Events LLC, Udi's, The Melting Pot and Birch Tree Cafe, TGIGF, Cheeseburger in Paradise and One Dish Cuisine. We also have other popular GF vendors who are providing products for our VERY popular raffle baskets. Yummy :-)
Please join us to learn about the health benefits of a gluten free diet – it's not just important for celiacs. This event is a fundraising event for CCSG which is a non-profit organization.

The purpose of CCSG is to support and educate individuals wo live a gluten-free (GF) lifestyle and to educate the community, at large, about the need to provide better options for GF shopping, travel and dining out.
