Bath Iron Works Trolley Tours

Don't miss this exclusive opportunity to go behind the gates of Bath Iron Works.

Bath Iron Works (BIW) is a commercial shipyard located on the Kennebec River in Bath, Maine. Since its foundation in 1884 by Thomas W. Hyde, Bath Iron Works has built private, commercial and military vessels. Its largest customer has historically been the United States Navy, for which the shipyard has built and sometimes designed battleships, frigates, cruisers and destroyers. Among the latest is the Arleigh Burke class, which is among the most advanced surface warships in the world.

Watch ‘the best shipbuilders in the world’ first make modular ship units and then piece the units together to create 9,200 ton AEGIS Destroyers.  Recently, the yard began construction on the first of the new Zumwalt (DDG-1000) class of destroyers.  There are usually several ships in various stages of the assembly and launching process.

This narrated tour is one hour long.  Photography in the Shipyard is strictly prohibited.  Cameras and cell phones are not allowed on the tour, and should be secured in your vehicle during the tour.  Along with cameras and cell phones, large bags or backpacks are not allowed on the trolley.  Upon check-in at the Museum Admission Desk, you will be asked to sign-in and state your country of citizenship.

This tour is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

Tickets are nonrefundable, except in the event of a cancellation by BIW (tours may be cancelled at any time due to national security concerns).  BIW Trolley tours are not cancelled in inclement weather. Ticket price includes Museum admission.

Check out the Museum's Kennebec River Cruises to see BIW from the water. All of our cruises pass by the shipyard, and photography is permitted from aboard the cruise boat.

Combine our one-hour Great Ships and Lighthouses Cruise with a BIW tour and receive the discounted member rate for the cruise.  Simply go to http://mmmgslcruise2013.eventbrite.com/   and select the member ticket for a great Maine cruise.
