2012 Fall Artist-In-Residence: Carl Weese - Photographer
Fall Artist-In-Residence Carl Weese is a professional photographer who has spent his career working both in commercial & editorial photography for a wide range of clients and also self-assigned, long-form documentary projects. The subjects of these independently produced projects range from street shooting to “documentary landscape.”
His current large documentary project centers on the American Drive-in Theater and the relationship of these iconic structures to the varied terrain of the American regional landscape. This is planned for a book production that will combine the photographs with a history of the theaters and extensive interviews with the owners and managers of drive-ins that still survive into the twenty-first century. Weese has funded his extensive cross-country road trips to photograph drive-ins through an exceptionally successful Kickstarter campaign.
Carl will be in residence at the Firehouse Cultural Center October 14– 21. During the week he will be documenting the Ruskin Drive-In and creating a small body of work from the Ruskin environs, conducting a photography workshop and demos as well as a Visiting Artist Talk and a Project Development Shop/Talk session for Artists, Performers, Writers, Educators. His workshop session is a two-day weekend intensive.
