WHAT? An evening reception to continue protecting Europe’s nature by financing Natura 2000
WHEN? 25 September 2012 from 17.30 to 19.30
WHERE? European Parliament, Altiero Spinelli Building, Ground Floor, Zone G, Area “Main Hall”, 60 Rue Wiertz, 1047 Brussels
Natura 2000 is an EU success story – it is the largest network of nature protection areas in the world and contributes to protecting Europe's most valuable and threatened species and habitats.
This year, the Habitats Directive, which together with the Birds Directive resulted in the creation of Natura 2000, celebrates its 20th anniversary. What better way to mark this milestone in nature protection than investing in its future!
With only 3 Euro cents per day, per EU citizen we can secure the huge benefits we get from nature’s services – estimated between €200-300 billion per year. The future EU Budget 2014-2020 can contribute decisively to provide the funds for Natura 2000 and ensure that the network continues to protect nature and deliver its benefits and services.
How can you help? By using your VOTE. At a time of a crucial voting in the European Parliament, we ask all Members of the European Parliament and interested parties to show their commitment in financing Natura 2000 and ensure that Europe’s nature stays protected!
The evening reception will be kindly hosted by MEP Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy and organised by the European Environmental Bureau (EEB), EUROPARC, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and WWF. The event will be moderated by Hans Friederich, Regional Director for Europe, IUCN.
