Chairs of the SART, Shelly Botello and Laurie Charles, will present on Sexual Assault in San Antonio, to provide the audience with information about the prevalence of this crime in our community. Followed by Rick Wadsworth to present on the importance of self preservation and care when working with complex trauma to decrease turn over and burn out in first responders.

Law Enforcement Track
Presenter: Sgt. Bill Grayson, SAPD, SVU
Topic: Human Trafficking - Introduction to Human Trafficking and How to Identify and Investigate Cases
Presenters: Shelley Botello, RN BSN CA-SANE, SANE-A , SANE-P began nursing career in 1993 working as a trauma nurse for University Hospital. Worked in the ER for 6 years with victims of violent crimes and then transferred to Methodist Specialty and Transplant as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. She took on role of Program Coordinator in August of 2000. Shelley has conducted over 1,000 forensic examinations and has had clinical oversight on over 10,000. Shelley speaks 2-3 times a week to various groups on issues relating to sexual assault, child abuse and intimate partner violence. She is trained and certified by the Texas Office of the Attorney General as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner and holds her SANE-A, SANE-P certification through the International Association of Forensic Nurses. Shelley has presented across the United States, South Korea, Nicaragua, and Guatemala and has provided training for over 25 countries seeking out training in Issues of Violence.

Mental Health Track
Presnter: Melissa Dilworth, LPC-AT/S, ATR-BC, RPT/S received her Masters in Art Therapy from The College of New Rochelle. Her credentials include LPC-AT/S (Licensed Professional Counselor-Art Therapy licensure and Approved Supervisor), ATR-BC (Board Certified Registered Art Therapist), and Registered Play Therapist/S (Registered Play Therapist and Approved Play Therapist Supervisor). Melissa is one of only few Licensed Art Therapists in the city of San Antonio. Melissa is also trained as a Trauma and Loss Consultant and School Specialist. She has been counseling children and families for over 15 years in a variety of settings. Melissa's primary clinical interests include trauma recovery and non-verbal therapies.
Topic: Art Therapy: Creating Safety - Participants will review the effects of trauma and how art activities can stimulate the brain to promote a more secure sense of self and emotional empowerment. This workshop will include experiential opportunities to enhance learning and understanding of the importance of art making with individuals who have experienced trauma.
Prevention Education Track
Presnter: Ted Rutherford, M.Ed. Texas Association Against Sexual Assault
Topic: Rape Culture on College Campus - Rates of sexual violence on college campuses are soaring despite risk reduction efforts like watch your drink campaigns and self-defense classes, which put the responsibility on the victim to not get raped. In this workshop we will instead focus on the factors that fuel perpetrator behavior and that create a rape culture that thrives in the college environment. Participants will develop strategies for disrupting campus rape culture across the Social Ecological Model.
