About the Workshop:

This workshop will cover several mistakes we have made in treating juveniles with sexually abusive behaviors either by using treatment methods derived from adult sexual offenders or by using best guesses that the field now has evidence against.  Less controversially are mistakes including not assessing or treating non-sexual crimes, and more controversial issues such as new information about the lack of utility of risk assessments will be discussed along with suggestions about what we need to be doing instead of these errors given the current state of knowledge.  Other areas that will be covered will include new neuroscience regarding executive functioning, the use of tools such as cycles and fantasy logs and the issue of substance abuse by these youth.
