Get out your business cards! On August 7, 2013, we'll be hosting the 13th DukeGEN Multi-city Networking Event. The DukeGEN Networking Events provide a chance for entrepreneurial-minded Duke alumni to meet one another. They happen three times a year, and are voluntarily organized by Duke alumni, for Duke alumni, students, faculty and staff.
The theme of this event will be startup and corporate culture, and will be featuring a guest speaker, Corey McAveeney from Boston startup Kulturenvy who will share some anecdotes based on her research and experience around this theme.
Corey McAveeney first scratched her entrepreneurial itch by monopolizing the babysitting scene in her neighborhood and working in her father's dental practice as a kid. Culture has always remained in the forefront - throughout her professional career, from the thrilling world of insurance brokerage to international trade analysis and corporate compliance, the one thing that consistently kept her up at night was group dynamics. She is obsessed with analyzing culture, particularly startup culture and understanding what patterns emerge and how we might use the information to help businesses succeed sustainably. Insight into the cultural landscape within the startup ecosystem has the power to amplify decisions behind attracting and retaining talent, communicating, and reflecting values. After quitting Silicon Valley, traveling the world in 2012 and returning home to Boston, it became clear to Corey what her purpose was and how she could create something that would help other leaders realize the full potential of a more in-depth understanding of culture. In addition to starting Kulturenvy, Corey also organizes the Greater Boston Startup Culture Meetup where she interviews startup culture enthusiasts.
