Native Voices at the Autry’s First Look Series: Then & Now
What is the history and legacy of the Indian boarding school and how does it inform or haunt Native Americans today? Using historical documents, first-person narratives, and present-day interviews of boarding school survivors, an ensemble of Native performers curate an evening of new work that explores the forced dispersal of Native peoples and the attempt to eradicate their cultural traditions and practices.
This free staged reading is presented as part of Native Voices at the Autry’s 2014-2015 season, themed “Legacy & Loss: Stories from the Indian Boarding School.”
