Event Details

A Busboys and Poetry Event The 11th Hour Poetry Slam offers an opportunity for poetry lovers to enjoy the competitive art of late-night performance poetry! Enjoy two rounds of high intensity poetry, with the audience choosing a winner. Join us for an alternative way to spend your Friday night at Poetry Slam, Inc's (PSI) DC Slam Venue.

Hosted by "2Deep" The Poetess

2Deep has certainly made a name for herself in the poetry community since 2006 by performing at Ottawa University (Canada), Cornell University, and opening for the late Gill Scott-Heron in 2009. She was a member of Busboys and Poets’ 2009 Slam Team, Word War II Champion, and served as the Busboys and Poets' Slam Master. Currently, she’s selling her book, Spoken Heard, and stays busy with her blog, 2DeepUncensored. 2Deep welcomes the life lessons, as they make for beautiful and honest poetry.

A poetry slam is a competitive event in which poets perform their work and are judged by members of the audience. Typically, the host or another organizer selects the judges, who are instructed to give numerical scores (on a zero to 10 or one to 10 scale) based on the poets' content and performance.

marc marcelOne of the world’s most recognized, prolific and consciously aware Spoken Word Artist of his generation, Marc Marcel finds it difficult to restrict himself to the labels of the art form. “It took me over a decade into my profession for me to realize poetry isn’t my gift,” Marc reveals, “Poetry is just a tool I’ve been using, to spread my gift through.”  With his many artistic attributes, if one would categorize his efforts, a philosopher would be more fitting. Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, diagnosed with Dyslexia at the age of 10, Marc has far exceeded the boundaries brought on by his early disability.  He has traveled the world, performing in 5 Countries, over 150 American Cities, published a Novel, ‘Saint Thomas;’ a book of poetry, ‘Unchained,’ produced 17 Spoken Word CDs, performed and/or held workshops for over 50 Colleges and Universities, (Harvard, Yale, Morehouse and the University of Florida, etc.), made 5 National Television appearances, (BETJ Lyrics Café, No Reservations, etc.), performed in front of 12,000people for Scion Night at Knots Scary Farm, and has graced legendary stages such as, The Smithsonian in Washington DC for the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Peace Ball for President Obama

Funny, all that means nothing,” Marc replies when asked about his massive history of work.  He explains, “Everything I’ve ever done in my life seems like it just prepares me for the next door I’m about to enter.”

Through his performances and lectures he captures the emotions and feelings of several subjects, everyday struggles of life, politics, love, spirituality, self-revelations and higher-consciousness.  “I always wanted to know what we were doing here,” he admits, “I just never thought I’d find the answers…now I’m just sharing what I think I know.”  Inspiring, candid, raw, clever, thought-provoking and entertaining are just a few descriptions of his presentations.

Marc works just as hard off of the stage as he does on it.  Throughout his career he has written thousands of unreleased poems, several unreleased novels and has produced hundreds of underground tracks.  Marcel lives as if his next second is the most important moment he has, and his devotion to his art is reflected in his great body of work.  He is Spoken Word, at its rawest, highest level of performance!
