Description

Implementing and Maintaining Stormwater Best Management Practices

To highlight the goals and action items of the City Parish FUTUREBR Comprehensive Plan, as it relates to wetlands, surface water, and water quality and provide information on opportunities to address these goals and action items. The workshop is presented by the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens, Louisiana Forestry Council, City Parish Planning Commission, BREC and the Water Quality Enhancement Committee. The workshop is designed for developers, planners, and engineers in East Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes.

Guest speakers will include Bob Adair of the Houston Land/Water Sustainability Forum who will give an overview on biofiltration practices that have been used in the Houston watershed; Margaret Robinson of Asakura Robinson Company presenting on designing green infrastructure; and Nick Russo of Harris County Texas Watershed Protection who will address green roadway reconstructions and stormwater quality monitoring. After lunch at Burden, the participants will be shuttled to a new development where there will be an overview of the use of implementation of Best Management Practices. Participants will then be shuttled to the Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center to review the use of permeable parking systems and bioswales by Ted Jack of BREC Parks. A reception will follow at the Nature Center and participants will be shuttled back to the Botanic Gardens.
