Description

TThis course prepares first responders/health care professionals to effectively address mental health consequences during or in the immediate aftermath of a disaster or public health emergency. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) helps to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. MHFA is an extension of the concept of first aid integrating physical, mental and behavioral health support. This first aid is given to persons with a mental health problem or crisis until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves.

This course is designed for Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Emergency Management Staff; Local, County, Tribe and State Government Units; Fire, Law Enforcement, EMS, Hospital and Healthcare; School Staff and Administrators; Volunteer Agencies active in disaster or preparedness exercises.
