"10 Years of Bringing Parents into Public Schools"
PPS-SF Annual Meeting and 10 Year Anniversary Kickoff
Parents for Public Schools-San Francisco (PPS-SF) is celebrating "10 Years of Bringing Parents into Public Schools". This free event includes Spanish and Chinese interpretation and KidsWatch. Featuring:
Guest Speaker Sandra Tsing Loh
Author and radio personality and Founder of "Burning Moms", a grassroots parent group organizing the California Children's Rally on June 23, 2009. Featuring a special showing of her new documentary, “Burning Mom”, about the first California Children’s Rally in 2008.
Burning Mom is the story of one mother's dream to throw a Million Parent March in Sacramento to protest California public education budget cuts. This irreverent 20-minute documentary covers this scruffy hilarious story of newbie parent activists and their on-the-fly tent city, giant art elephant, hay bales, kazoo bands, and agitprop theatre on the Capitol steps featuring $500 snickerdoodles, culminating, of course, with kids facing down their legislators in what would become the annual event called the California Children's Rally (next one: June 23, 2009).
Presentations to Special Guests
- PPS-SF Founders Deena Zacharin and Sandra Halladey
- BOE Commissioner and Education Advisor to the Mayor, Hydra Mendoza
- Former PPS-SF Executive Director Lorraine Woodruff-Long
- Cindy Rambo of Zellerbach Family Foundation
