Event Details

Homeschooling parents, teachers and students are welcome to a special day on the farm! Enjoy Rural Hill’s most popular educational programs throughout the day and learn how eighteenth century life was for the younger generations of America through History’s Kids as well!

During the educational programs Light and Heat in the Eighteenth Century and Fire Cakes at Rural Hill, Education Director Zac Vinson will take you and your students back in history when Rural Hill was first settled by Major John Davidson and his family. Learn about life in a two room cabin, see fire building and primitive cooking demonstrations. These programs focus both on history and science and are attended by thousands of students each year.

History’s Kids is a Charlotte-based group that focuses on educating children about our colonial heritage. The group holds classes and club members take day trips to explore historic sites and demonstrate 18th century lifeways. During the day your students will get to sit down and interact with club members and learn about how colonial life was for the younger generations.

BONUS- The one room 1890 Davidson Schoolhouse will be open for students, parents, and teachers throughout the day! Just a short drive from the main parking lot at Rural Hill, the Davidson Schoolhouse will be hosted for the day by Mrs. Paulette Gardner, one of Rural Hill's veteran docents. Mrs. Gardner will inform students and teachers alike on how school was taught and give students a few lessons from vintage readers and arithmetic books.
