1 in 3 Screening Benefiting Austin's SafePlace
Friday, July 18, 2014 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (PDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
1 in 3 is based on the real-life experiences of a domestic abuse advocate, filmmaker Lagueria Davis. For four years, Davis worked at the Women’s Resource Center in Norman, Okla., while she completed her film degree from the University of Oklahoma. The film was shot entirely in Oklahoma and is now on tour across the US with screenings benefiting local domestic violence shelters at each city stop.
SafePlace was chosen as the beneficiary of this event because of the impactful and courageous work they do in the Austin community. SafePlace has come a long way in the last 40 years. While continuing to support immediate needs through a 24-hour hotline, hospital accompaniment, and shelter counseling services, SafePlace has added programs that educate, build awareness, provide support in accessing resources and work with the children of survivors to move beyond the trauma resulting from the violence in their lives.
After small event fees, 100% of remaining ticket sales and donations will go directly to SafePlace.
