Madison-Morgan Conservancy

  • Since its founding in 2000 as Georgia's first countywide conservancy, the Madison-Morgan Conservancy has been successful in protecting valuable natural, agricultural, and historic resources in Morgan County. The Conservancy has accomplished this work by building strong partnerships, educating the public and local decision-makers, identifying and documenting threatened resources, and utilizing innovative tools to protect those resources. The result: permanent protection of almost 4,000 acres through the donation of conservation easements by private landowners; a transferable development rights program in the City of Madison; over 60 educational forums; Georgia’s first county-wide Greenprint in 2004; Georgia’s first agritourism farm trail in 2011, “FARMeander;” restoration of numerous historic structures; and a sustained, good working relationship with local governments.
