Bobby Babak Andishmand is a producer and documentary filmmaker. He fled with his mother from Iran to Amsterdam at the age of 3 to escape the persecution of non-muslims. He graduated from the Rietveld International School of Art & Design in Amsterdam with a bachelors degree of Fine Arts and studied Literature at Leiden University. Bobby currently lives in New York City.
He is the producer of New York's annual Take Two Film Festival, a Salon Ciel affiliate, which showcases a feisty new generation of filmmakers exploring frontiers of artistry and technology.
He is a board member of the selection committee at the Tompkins Square Park Film Festival and serves on the journal board of editors at the Society of Motion Pictures and Television Engineers (SMPTE). Bobby is also an active voting member of the American Film Institute (AFI), National Association of Independent Artists (NAIA), the Organization of Independent Artists (OIA) and the New York Film & Video Council (NYFVC).
Bobby's documentary films explore the lives of offbeat, adventurous characters, many of them artists, in cities around the world. He expertly guides his subjects through situations that reveal their innermost stories. These award-winning and internationally acclaimed films have been lauded in film festivals and art shows around the world and featured in the New York Times and other media.
Bobby Andishmand has given several filmmaking workshops to children in Canarsie, Brooklyn and is a volunteer art teacher with Free Arts NYC, providing underserved children in New York a unique combination of educational art and mentoring programs that help them to foster the self-confidence and resiliency needed to realize their fullest potential.
