Virginia Latino Higher Education Network (VALHEN)
The Virginia Latino Higher Education Network (VALHEN) is the only state-wide, non-profit, 501(c) (3) organization which supports, promotes, and advocates for Latino success and advancement in higher education, to ensure that every Latino in Virginia is college and career ready for the benefit and betterment of the Commonwealth of Virginia. VALHEN volunteers are driven by their passionate belief that our Hispanic/Latino children and communities must have access to education in order to become full and contributing members of our Commonwealth.
VALHEN’s journey is a classic study of collaboration, determination, and vision, made possible by the work of its volunteer members and the generous in-kind contributions of numerous institutions, especially this year's Encuentro host: James Madison University (JMU), and others, such as Northern Virginia Community College, Old Dominion University (ODU), Regent University, State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV), Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Virginia State University (VSU), Virginia Tech (VT), and the University of Richmond (UR).
We thank Virginia Tech, host of the 2015 Hispanic College Institute (HCI) and NASA, our HCI collaborator since 2013, as well as the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities. We are indebted to our generous corporate sponsors this year (in alpha order): Altria, Dominion, John Robinson DreamHost.com, NVCC Educational Foundation, Raytheon Corporation, Virginia Credit Union, Virginia 529 Program, and Wells Fargo; and very much appreciate the support and encouragement of Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, and of Governor Terry McAuliffe and his administration.
