In 1915, St. Katherine Drexel purchased a plot of land at 5116 Magazine Street to ensure education opportunities were available to young Blacks in the America South. She expanded the opportunity for students to continue by creating a leadership pipeline in the model of Xavier University.

The Xavier Prep Alumni Association (XPAA) for 25 years has committed to aligning with the vision and mission of St. Katharine Drexel the foundress of Xavier University Preparatory, now known as St. Katherine Drexel Preparatory. While there are continuous efforts being made to provide programming and resources for girls, cultural programming for their female counterparts is scarce. XPAA seeks to meet the unique needs of this target population.

The XPAA alumnae network is strong, providing the girls of SKDP with experiences that increase their self-esteem; teaching them effective decision-making skills; instilling in them positive cultural values; connecting them with positive women role models and helping them discover the power within as they prepare to graduate and begin on their path of global engagement. Over the years the Xavier Prep Alumni has awarded more than $350,000 to more than 240 students to stay in a school environment where they are voices are heard and their accomplishments are numerous. At SKDP, girls are challenged with an education attuned to the circumstances and times in which we live, and we express an exceptional spirit of love – for our traditions, our students and our city. In addition to sponsoring several activities throughout the year to fund its scholarships, Xavier Prep Alumni Association solicits and receives funds from individuals, corporations and other philanthropic organizations.
