La Senora Research Institute

La Senora  reconnects our community to its history via interactive, historically accurate and intriguing educational programs.   Our programs are designed to encompass all age and demographic groups, including significant outreach to low income and minority communities.  La Senora also opens its doors and resources, enticing the diverse elements of the historical community into collaborative endeavors.

Our anthropological layers allow us to unearth the changes each Era has brought to one small Mexican Rancho. In the early 19th Century our focus narrows to an artistic and social mecca -- a single Hacienda built on what was once Rancho land.   Our Institute is housed in a 1920's era Hacienda that was the residence of a series of "Old Hollywood" Legends; built by one of Edison’s Three Tenors, Jose Mojica’s Music Salon is the site of our chamber music; the 1930-40's  brought the Hacienda Anita Loos' Santa Monica Canyon Salon;  Lyle Wheeler (David Selznick's Art Director) made the hacienda his home. The over 600 films produced by these three former residents are screened in our 50-seat theater
