Books for Peace
Books for Peace foundation is a non-profit charitable trust. The organization was founded as a response to the profound crisis of education in Pakistan.
Our view of education is holistic. We seek intervention in a range of areas including early childhood development, teacher training, family literacy, and skills development by working partnerships with local communities and organizations. The foundation is in the process of seeking registration in the United States as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, in the United Kingdom under the Charities Act of 2006, and in Pakistan under the 1860 Registration act.
Our Mission:
Promote quality progressive education as a fundamental human right in underserved and fragile regions. We are a catalyst for social and economic development and stage interventions designed to enable citizens to become productive members of society.
The Special Child Trust
The Special Child Trust has been formed as a non-profit national platform to raise awareness and funds for children with special needs. They aim to work towards increasing awareness about children with special needs including the promotion of early diagnosis, parent and teacher education, and providing better access to therapy and related services. The trust hopes to encourage active participation by legislators, regulators, the media, corporations and other institutions in raising awareness about children with special needs, and by sensitizing the society at large to the unique challenges faced by these children and their families.
The Special Child Trust has also initiated the Blue Room Project to facilitate learning amongst autistic children. This is a one-of-a-kind program that has already been implemented at the Vasant Valley school in New Delhi. It can be termed as a pre-school program with a difference: the numbers are small, the setting is specialized and the staff is trained in all areas of intervention. It is the only program in India that has a student – teacher ratio of 1:1. The main aim of this initiative is to enhance the quality of early childhood programs by offering practical, innovative and developmentally appropriate curriculum in a specialized setting. This endeavour is one of many steps initiated by the Special Child Trust towards helping special children assimilate into mainstream community settings with ease.
