Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto
Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto’s (CLSEPA) mission is to provide transformative legal services that enable diverse communities in East Palo Alto and beyond to achieve a secure and thriving future. Our goal is to support individuals and communities in effecting significant, positive changes. In order to have a transformative impact, our direct services are coupled with community education, technical assistance, policy advocacy, and impact litigation. For many of the individuals that we serve, our services will be necessary first to help community members attain personal security – for example, the immigrant survivor of domestic violence who is able to leave her abuser after obtaining legal status. Our ultimate goal is to support community members in achieving not only security and stability but also a thriving future.
We help effect positive change through the following programs:
- Our Immigration program provides legal assistance to immigrants seeking better lives, allowing families to emerge from the shadows of fear and expand their educational and career opportunities.
- Our Housing program provides legal assistance to tenants, seeking to improve living conditions, combat unlawful abuses, and prevent homelessness and the dislocation of a diverse low-income community.
- Our Economic Advancement program includes a variety of services designed to help residents fight fraudulent, predatory, and unlawful business practices and overcome barriers to economic advancement.
