On the Edge
On the Edge is Leeds’ pioneering Community Arts and Culture Organisation, founded in 2010 to initiate an annual festival which truly represents and is owned by the people of Leeds, and which aims to follow in the footsteps of Edinburgh and Brighton’s Fringe Festivals for prestige and quality. Our strategy is developed around inclusion and pro-activity by people amongst the artistic community and by community activists working to bring people and ideas together under the mantle of creativity. We believe that art can and should be used as an agent for transformation and regeneration, and we particularly favour positive action on behalf of Leeds’ more deprived and isolated communities.
On the Edge has quickly developed a track record for successfully organising and delivering ambitious large scale arts events on a minimum budget. In July 2011 we hosted our first Festival at Temple.Works.Leeds in Holbeck, where visitors were regaled with theatre, live music, performance art, an arts and crafts market, and our magnificent Festival Gallery. Using good will, ingenuity, and half a ton of elbow grease, we created an environment in which artists and visitors were “all in it together” – we created a experience which nearly 600 people were able to share.
