San Francisco plays host to some of the most innovative and culturally progressive outdoor events on earth. In keeping with that tradition, NewTeeVee has been recently responsible for projecting grainy, Youtube-quality videos on enormous outdoor screens near the city’s piers. In their own words: “The Pier Screenings, a series of four summer events, bring together content creators and online video aficionados in a casual setting. These events are live tests of how well online video survives the move from the PC to the gigantic screen, accompanied by entertaining commentary from our judges and informative talks by relevant, successful online video entrepreneurs. Past themes included episodic content, parody, product placement and user-generated advertising, and citizen news.” This Thursday is the last event in San Francisco for the Summer, until the series returns (by way of LA and NY) in October. Don’t miss this opportunity to be a part of a cool experiment at the intersection of mass-audience experience and personal digital video. The topic for this Thursday’s screening is Pilots: “Please send us the first episode of your online show, whether it’s been picked up or not, and our panel of judges and live audience will vote on whether they’d like to keep watching. We welcome all genres of shows.” So, check out NewTeeVee on Thursday night. I’ll be there.
